About Us:
Spring 2017, I was in search of a Carroll Newspaper article from 1978. After searching all known areas online, it came to my knowledge the 70's had never been microfilmed or digitized for historical record. The Carroll County Historical Society graciously allowed me look thru their 70's collection that had been donated in hopes I could find the article. I found it!! On that day The Carroll County Heritage Digitizing Organization was formed. Two of us volunteered our time and equipment to digitize all the 70's newspapers that we could find to add to the microfilmed collection. After completing all the 70's we could find, we looked at the other years that had been microfilmed and agreed we needed to digitally scan them as well. A digital scan is much cleaner when viewing photos in newspapers, and those photos are an important part of our history!!
We are currently still scanning newspapers... (Please look at our list under newspapers to see how many 70's we found, we are still looking for some editions).
We were asked if yearbooks or group photos from schools past and present had been scanned for historical record. Since we couldn't find any records they had ever been done, we included those into this project....(Please look at our list under yearbooks to see how many yearbooks we have found, we are still looking for more).
Every time someone asks us if we have thought about including a subject in this project, we think it is an awesome idea to record our county's history. We have been asked to includes churches, family bibles, family scrapbooks, veteran scrapbooks, memorial cards, the list has been endless.
Our goal with all this information and scanning is to make a searchable database, not just scan images. Currently we are "just scanning", we feel it is the most important part of the project, to get the digital image.
