Historical Courthouse Tragedy

In the early morning hours of March 14, 1912, gun fire broke out in the courtroom of the Historical Carroll County Courthouse. The aftermath: five people died and seven were wounded in the gun battle. This event remained in the national news until the sinking of the Titanic. The Carroll County Court transferred all documents to the Wythe County Court for the 1912 murder trials that followed this event. We are currently digitizing the documents that were in the Woodruff drawer and folders. Some of these items are from the Carroll Court and some are from the Wythe Court. All items were in the same Woodruff drawer. Please be patient as we digitize and upload for you to view.
A big Thank You to Carroll and Wythe Courts for making this project possible!
