Charter Books

A charter is a formal, legal document that grants specific rights and privileges to a group or entity. Charters were issued for various purposes, locally they were more used to establish business ventures, incorporation of a business and to define the structure of organizations. 
Both original books can be found in the Clerk of Circuit Court's archive room.
